Your leash. Your rules.

Hey Reader

Dog’s walked on leashes sometimes don’t care that they’re on a leash… and they definitely don’t care that you’re attached to the other end of it, especially if they’re on a mission.

So, if you dread walking your dog because… well… your 70 lb Golden is actually walking you, keep reading because we’ve got a trick for you.

First thing’s first... you are the boss.

That doesn’t mean being harsh or yanking them back every five steps. It means setting the tone before you ever hit the sidewalk.

Before your real walk, take 5 minutes in a distraction-free spot (like inside the house or in your yard) and practice walking together.

Short, calm steps.
Keep the leash loose.
Reward them every time they stay in step with you.
If they pull, reset and try again.

What this does is teach your Golden that walking is a team sport, not a one-dog sprint to the nearest squirrel.

By the time you open the front door, they already know the rules.

My favorite part about this is you don’t need fancy gear, endless training sessions, or a sore shoulder to get results. Just 5 focused minutes before your walk can completely change how the rest of it goes.

Give it a try and watch your daily walks go from frustrating to actually fun for both of you.

xo,

Dindy & Ken

P.S. If your new walking routine works, you might just find yourself looking forward to those leash times. And if you want more tips like this, check out our nursery for the next Goldens who will steal your heart.

Reader, There’s a reason puppy owners joke about living with a “land shark.” One minute your Golden is sweet and cuddly, the next they’re coming at you with teeth sharp enough to pierce through jeans. It feels personal… but it’s not. It’s just biology. Teething is one of the messiest, most misunderstood phases of puppyhood. And if you don’t know what’s normal, and what’s not, you’ll spend those months frustrated, covered in bite marks, and wondering if you adopted a Golden or a piranha. Here’s...

Hey Reader, If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably bought your fair share of “must-have” puppy toys… ropes, squeakers, tennis balls, plush animals, you name it. You bring them home, expecting your puppy to lose their mind over the new squeaky duck… and instead, they run right past it to chew on your shoelace. Here’s the thing your puppy isn’t telling you… Their favorite toy isn’t the one with the loudest squeak or the fanciest packaging. It’s you. Your voice.Your attention.Your time....

At Fox Ridge Goldens, we don’t just go with what’s trending. We base our decisions on what keeps our dogs healthy, strong, and thriving, now and long-term.
