Please don’t do this to your Golden

Hey Reader

There’s a myth that just won’t die.
And every summer… we see it play out.

A well-meaning owner thinks shaving their Golden is the answer.
“Less fur = cooler dog,” right?

Wrong.

Goldens aren’t built like that.

They have a double coat… and it’s there for a reason.
The undercoat insulates. The topcoat protects.

Shaving it off messes with both.

It doesn’t make them cooler. It exposes them.

To sunburn. To heat. To skin irritation.

And here’s the kicker…sometimes that beautiful coat doesn’t grow back the same.

At Fox Ridge, we want you to have the whole dog.

Not just the pretty face and sweet temperament… but the knowledge to do right by them.

So here’s what to do instead:

• Brush regularly (you’ll both survive shedding season, promise)
• Keep them clean and dry, especially in hotter places like Texas, Florida ect.
• Trim don’t shave. Leave the structure of the coat alone
• Use a groomer who knows Goldens and won’t suggest shortcuts

This is part of what we mean when we say “health starts here.”

Our dogs are given the best from day one… but that doesn’t stop once they go home.

It’s not about being perfect.
It’s about being informed.

If you're ready to start this journey the right way, our upcoming litter is the place to start. The waitlist is open now, and those spots don’t last.

P.S. Love the look? Keep the coat. Goldens were made this way for a reason.

Reader, There’s a reason puppy owners joke about living with a “land shark.” One minute your Golden is sweet and cuddly, the next they’re coming at you with teeth sharp enough to pierce through jeans. It feels personal… but it’s not. It’s just biology. Teething is one of the messiest, most misunderstood phases of puppyhood. And if you don’t know what’s normal, and what’s not, you’ll spend those months frustrated, covered in bite marks, and wondering if you adopted a Golden or a piranha. Here’s...

Hey Reader Dog’s walked on leashes sometimes don’t care that they’re on a leash… and they definitely don’t care that you’re attached to the other end of it, especially if they’re on a mission. So, if you dread walking your dog because… well… your 70 lb Golden is actually walking you, keep reading because we’ve got a trick for you. First thing’s first... you are the boss. That doesn’t mean being harsh or yanking them back every five steps. It means setting the tone before you ever hit the...

Hey Reader, If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably bought your fair share of “must-have” puppy toys… ropes, squeakers, tennis balls, plush animals, you name it. You bring them home, expecting your puppy to lose their mind over the new squeaky duck… and instead, they run right past it to chew on your shoelace. Here’s the thing your puppy isn’t telling you… Their favorite toy isn’t the one with the loudest squeak or the fanciest packaging. It’s you. Your voice.Your attention.Your time....
